Muralitharan was born in Kandavadi, Sri Lanka, in 1972. At an early age, he began playing cricket, quickly showing his talent. Unfortunately, his career was interrupted due to the Sri Lankan Civil War, and he moved temporarily to India for safety.
Muralitharan continued playing cricket after his move to India and eventually made his national team debut for Sri Lanka in 1992. Soon after, he quickly established himself as one of the finest bowlers worldwide, making batters challenging targets with his unorthodox bowling action.
